Overview
Hiding incredible treasures in its depths, the ocean around Sri Lanka offers many world-class scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities. Our tour will focus on the western and southern sides of the island.
In the west, is ‘Bar Reef’ – Sri Lanka’s largest, spanning 3 nautical miles in length and 1 nautical mile in breadth. We will also be visiting the exquisite reefs off the southern coast at Hikkaduwa and Weligama.
This specific adventure is designed for those travelling from December to April.

Itinerary
Upon your arrival at the airport, a chauffeur guide will be waiting to transfer you to Kalpitiya, a serene fishing village on the northwestern coast. Kalpitiya beach is a lengthy, slender stretch of sand, accessible by boat from across the lagoon. The area is renowned for dolphin and whale watching, as well as kite surfing. The offshore waters often teem with dolphins, and a boat ride offers a chance to see them up close

After breakfast, set out to explore the renowned Bar Reef, a prime destination for both scuba divers and snorkelers. As the largest coral reef in Sri Lanka, Bar Reef is just an hour's boat ride from Kalpitiya. This pristine and unspoiled reef covers approximately 307 square kilometers and is home to 156 species of coral and 283 species of fish, with regular sightings of manta rays, reef sharks, and turtles. Despite its breathtaking natural beauty, the western peninsula of Kalpitiya remains largely unaffected by mass tourism.

Travel south to Galle, Sri Lanka’s oldest continually inhabited city, rich with historic sites and a blend of European and Arabic cultural influences. In the afternoon, visit the Galle Fort to stroll its cobbled streets and learn about its history. Galle Fort, a World Heritage site, buzzes with activity, arts, and culture, featuring alleys lined with restaurants, art galleries, and shops selling jewelry and antiques.

Discover Hikkaduwa, known for its impressive coral reefs and vibrant tropical fish. Dive or snorkel at Conch Reef, where you can explore the historic wreck of an early Shell Company oil tanker that sank in 1903 after hitting Akarta rock. The wreck, teeming with marine life, is one of the most accessible and fascinating in Sri Lanka.

Spend the day snorkeling or diving in Unawatuna. Enjoy a 3-hour scuba diving session that reveals Sri Lanka’s vivid corals, intriguing wrecks, and a diverse range of marine life, including over 170 species of reef fish, turtles, octopuses, and possibly the whale shark. Later, travel to Weligama, a charming fishing village with beautiful coves and excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities.
